Amidst recalls, GM sales are up!

In the middle of congressional grilling and mounting recalls, GM’s March sales are up! While most of the industry was on pins and needles yesterday over a computer glitch that halted sales reporting, thinking sales might have been way under (I verified this with GM insiders, everything from parts to the sales number crunching were affected), it was worth the wait. Impala sales were very strong over last year, up some 103%, light trucks were strong, Corvette tripled sales over last March, and overall we saw a 7% increase in sales. Fleet sales are down 5% which is a good thing for GM’s bottom line, relying more on the higher profit retail sector. As we all know, recalls are part of the business of making cars, and with an effective pricing strategy and a quality product portfolio, consumers will still buy your product.
